PURPOSE

The purpose of Dumbbell “Pitching” is both to expedite learning of correct execution of advanced overall mechanical execution Finalized Outman Methodology™ for Pitching a baseball on the vertical plane and further to enhance the physical conditioning of a pitcher learning correctly to execute advanced overall mechanical execution Finalized Outman Methodology™ for Pitching a baseball on the vertical plane.

“PITCHING”

In reference to Dumbbell “Pitching”, I surround the word pitching with quotation marks to reflect that, while the precise mechanics associated with an actual live advanced overall mechanical execution Finalized Outman Methodology™ for Pitching a baseball on the vertical plane pitching-delivery is executed, no ball glove is worn on the glove-Hand and no object (a baseball, in example) is gripped by and, then, released from the pitching-Hand to be propelled over a distance.  The dumbbells are held fast in both hands from the beginning to the end of each “pitching-delivery”.

OVERVIEW

Personally, I love engaging in Dumbbell “Pitching” employing advanced overall mechanical execution Finalized Outman Methodology™ for Pitching a baseball on the vertical plane”.  For me, it is the next best thing to live pitching of a baseball.  

Especially during the off-season, Dumbbell “Pitching” is an excellent conditioning, training and performance improving (and maintaining) “tool” relative to correct advanced overall mechanical execution Finalized Outman Methodology™ for Pitching a baseball on the vertical plane.

I can accomplish Dumbbell “Pitching” indoors.  I need only space sufficient to allow a “pitching-delivery” (including sideways “crab walk” follow-through steps) to be executed unimpeded.

The symmetry and balance created by gripping identical size, shape and weight dumbbells in both the glove-Hand and the pitching-Hand enables a Dumbbell “Pitching-delivery” to be executed identically with correct execution of an actual advanced overall mechanical execution Finalized Outman Methodology™ for Pitching a baseball on the vertical plane live pitching-delivery, which enables Dumbbell “Pitching” to be instrumental in improving all live advanced overall mechanical execution baseball-pitching performance-factors.  

The slowing down of a “pitching-delivery” owing the resistance to normal-speed mechanical execution presented by the individual and collective weight of the dumbbells enables heightened focus by the brain on all Elements (i.e., body positioning/orientation, muscle employ, timing of execution) of correct execution of each “pitching-delivery” as the brain signals the body toward maintaining control over the weight/resistance that the dumbbells impose on the body of the “pitcher”, which, in turn, both allows and “encourages” accomplishing improvement in correct execution of all Elements of a pitching-delivery by fully, correctly and explosively contracting all muscles employed in executing Rotational Acceleration, whipping the pitching-Arm rearward and, “follow-through” to (and through) what would be the release-point of a baseball from the pitching-Hand when engaged in live pitching.  

In terms of training/learning, Dumbbell “Pitching” expedites deepening of neural connections between the brain and the body of the pitcher in correct execution of advanced overall mechanical execution Finalized Outman Methodology™ for Pitching a baseball on the vertical plane, expedites deepening of muscle memory associated with correct execution of advanced overall mechanical execution Finalized Outman Methodology™ for Pitching a baseball on the vertical plane and expedites deepening of overall physical feel for correct execution of advanced overall mechanical execution Finalized Outman Methodology™ for Pitching a baseball on the vertical plane. 

In terms of conditioning, the resistance that the weight of the dumbbells applies against the correctly executed contractions (explosive or otherwise) of the musculature employed in correct execution of advanced overall mechanical execution Finalized Outman Methodology™ for Pitching a baseball on the vertical plane increases the strength of that musculature (including the grip of both the glove-Hand and the pitching-Hand).

Even weeks after the start of regular employ, Dumbbell “Pitching” enables the continued recognition of individual pitching-delivery nuances relative to correct execution, which recognition facilitates implementing refinements to individual pitching-delivery execution, which implemented refinements result in a higher quality and consistency of correct pitching-delivery execution on the part of that individual.

DUMBBELL "PITCHING" INSTRUCTION

IF YOU HAVE achieved, at least, to competency of correct execution over advanced overall mechanical execution Finalized Outman MethodologyTM for Pitching a baseball on the vertical plane, then, proceed to the Dumbbell “Pitching” instructions below.

IF YOU HAVE NOT achieved, at least, to competency of correct execution over advanced overall mechanical execution Finalized Outman MethodologyTM for Pitching a baseball on the vertical plane, DO NOT proceed to Dumbbell “Pitching”. You ARE NOT yet prepared to engage in Dumbbell “Pitching”.

WHAT TYPE OF DUMBBELLS SHOULD BE USED?

1) To assist in maintaining your grip throughout the entirety of each dumbbell “pitching- delivery” executed, preferably use steel dumbbells that are coated with rubber or other grip-assisting coating.

2) Always use a pair of dumbbells that are identical in size, shape and weight. 

3) Use dumbbells that weigh up to, but no greater than five (5) pounds each.

NOTE: Whie the maximum of five (5) pound dumbbells is altogether sufficient for deriving all the benefits of dumbbell "pitching", some individuals might be capable of commanding/controlling six (6) pound dumbbells.  However, dumbbells that are too heavy become unwieldy negating the ability correctly to execute "pitching-deliveries" and, thereby, sabotaging the entire purpose and intent of together with the benefits derived from dumbbell "pitching".  FOR THE RECORD, I have engaged (experimentally) in dumbbell "pitching" employing dumbbells up to ten (10) pounds in weight. FURTHER FOR THE RECORD, I repeat, dumbbells weighing five (5) pounds are altogether sufficient as an individual maximum-weight limit.

HOW SHOULD DUMBBELL “PITCHING” BE EXECUTED BY FIRST-TIMERS?


First-timers should:

1) Start with a pair of lighter weight (1 to 2 pounds eachdumbbells and, with practice executing “pitching-deliveries”, work your way up through pairs of heavier weight dumbbells (to a maximum of 5 pounds each) as (if and when) you feel in complete command of the current weight dumbbells during execution of “pitching-deliveries”.

2) Always stretch and warm-up your body by other means before proceeding to dumbbell “pitching”.

3) Never execute the first dumbbell “pitching-delivery” of a “pitching” session at full exertion.

4) Always build up to full exertion through multiple “pitching-deliveries” at the start of a session.

5) Never attempt full exertion “pitching-deliveries” until after you have arrived at the point of feeling comfortable executing “pitching-deliveries” gripping the dumbbells and using lesser exertion.

Take your time allowing your body to adapt to the experience of (feeling physically comfortable with) dumbbell "pitching".



Once you arrive at feeling physically comfortable and being enabled, thereby, to exert yourself fully, you will quickly discover the conditioning and training benefits and the very positive influence on you gaining mastery over consistently correct execution of advanced overall mechanical execution Finalized Outman MethodologyTM for pitching a baseball on the vertical plane that dumbbell “pitching” produces.

6) Firmly gripping the dumbbells with your pitching-Hand & your glove-Hand, execute repeated advanced overall mechanical execution Finalized Outman MethodologyTM for pitching a baseball on the vertical plane “pitching-deliveries” precisely as though you were both wearing a ball glove on your glove-Hand and gripping a baseball in your pitching-Hand including attention to “Crossing Your Belt-line”, “The Second Base Rule” and “up & over” in explosively contracting both your pitching-side Oblique Abdominal muscles and your pitching-side Pectoral muscles.

7) During your first-time session, try executing a total of twenty (20) dumbbell “pitching- deliveries”. Thereafter, work toward increasing the number of dumbbell “pitching-deliveries” that you execute per session.

Again, engage in dumbbell "pitching" only after you have first warmed-up through stretching and otherwise working-out at home or by stretching together with working-out at a local fitness center (i.e. using Outman MethodologyTM conditioning & training regimen).

HOW SHOULD DUMBBELL “PITCHING” BE EXECUTED OVER THE “LONG-HAUL”?

1) Once you have worked your way up to a pair of five (5) pound dumbbells (unless a lesser weight, for one reason or another, constitutes your personal maximum), engage in dumbbell “pitching” as frequently as your personal comfort level allows (or demands, as the case may be).

2) Follow the instructions detailed aside numbers “2”, “3” & “4” under number “5” (“How Should Dumbbell ‘Pitching’ Be Executed by First-Timers?”above.

NOTE: The only potential "hazard" associated with dumbbell "pitching" is the possibility of clipping the Thigh, Knee or Shin of your front pivot-Leg with the dumbbell gripped in your pitching-Hand IF you fail sufficiently to contract the flexor muscles of the Forearm of your pitching-Arm during and after "follow-through" to what would be the release-point of a baseball from your pitching-Hand. 

Sufficiently contracting the flexor muscles of the Forearm of your pitching-Arm, in turn, sufficiently pronates the palm of your pitching-Hand to cause the dumbbell gripped in your pitching-Hand harmlessly to pass alongside of and, then, rearward of your front pivot-Leg.
